What is a giclee?

A giclee is an individually produced, high-resolution, high tech reproduction done on a special large format printer. Giclees are superior to traditional lithography. The colours are brighter, last longer, and are so high-resolution that they are virtually 'continuous tone', rather than tiny dots. The ink is sprayed onto the page (instead of using tiny dots of colour like Lithography), actually mixing the colour on the page to create truer shades and hues in a wider colour gamut. Lightfast (fade resistant) pigment based inks are used, as opposed to dye-based inks .

Awakening of Spring
Awakening of Spring - 20” x 30”
An English country garden with cherry trees. This scene is in Southern England. When looking up close, my love for Impressionism can be seen clearly in this scene along with Le Beau Jardin. The original is a 24” x 36” oil on canvas.

Balanced by Light
Balanced by Light - 20” x 30”
This scene was not so much about the subject matter as about the light and colour. It was loosely painted and is leaning towards Impressionism. The shafts of light and dark colour crossing the image (upper left to lower right), balance the subject matter - the lilies (running from lower left to upper right) forming a cross with it, and compositionally speaking, balancing it. The original is a 24” x 36” oil on canvas.

Canada Geese
Canada Geese - 15” x 20”
This scene was based on a snap shot taken from a canoe. The beauty of the water drew me to paint this scene. The original is an 18” x 24” oil on canvas.

Is a part of Claude Monet’s garden in Giverney, France. On average, my paintings are worked in five stages/layers of colour. This painting and Awakening of Spring had seven. The original is a 24” x 36” oil on canvas.

Pelton Mountain Road
Pelton Mountain Road - 15” x 20”
This scene shows the view from Pelton Mountain Road overlooking the beautiful Annapolis Valley in the Fall. The ‘wall’ of trees was broken (by removing a few trees) in order to allow the viewer to go into the scene. This road is about 16 km’s West of The Look-Off on North Mountain. The original is an 18” x 24” oil on canvas.

The Place that Time Forgot
The Place That Time Forgot - 20” x 30”
Is the Ninfa Gardens which are located about 40 miles south-east of Rome. Ninfa was neglected until the twentieth century when the town's ruins were transformed into a botanical garden. The appeal to me, of this scene, was not so much the ruins themselves, but seeing nature reclaiming everything. The original is a 24” x 36” oil on canvas.

Waiting for the Tide
Waiting For The Tide - 20” x 30 ”
This is one of my favourite Nova Scotian coastal scenes. This view is looking from Delhaven to what remains of Paddy’s Island on the Bay of Fundy. It is located very close to the town of Canning. The original is a 24” x 30” oil on canvas.
